Dashing from the train, crowds swirl around York Station. All rushing from here to where. And in the evening we'll all spool it back the other way.
There were reports last week of changing the peak fare structures on our very expensive and crowded trains; apparently this will encourage peak time train users to choose a different time to travel. The flaw myself and my daughter can see here is that we'd love to travel at different times; it's just she has to get to school and I sometimes have to get to morning meetings, you know, peak time travel. Peak times exist because that's when people need to travel for work. Changing fare structures won't change the times schools, shops or government offices open.
Maybe compelling all public transport staff, CEOs down and especially those who plan the services, to travel standard class by public transport to and from work and whilst on work business might change things? While we're at it, they also have to queue and buy tickets like the rest of us and claim it back on (very)expenses. Just so they get the whole, life affirming experience.
